How to get here

LIMNOS VIA ATHENS.  All the major European and American companies or their partners fly into Athens.  From Athens there are two or three flights per day with Olympic Air, the only company serving the island from Athens.

ATHENS AIRPORT IS MODERN with lots of shops and restaurants, but almost totally without comfortable places to sit. If you have a long wait between flights you will find, just opposite the terminal building, the Hotel Sofitel which has an agreeable, quiet ground floor bar, with a large shaded terrace, free newspapers, and well served, if expensive drinks and snacks.

IF YOU HAVE A VERY LONG WAIT BETWEEN PLANES  (at least five hours) you can go into central Athens.  From the arrival level either take a yellow taxi to “Syndagma” (30 minutes drive, cost around 35€) or the 95X bus (40 minutes drive, cost 4€ per person). Return from Syndagma square with the metro direction Eleftherios Venizelou Airport.  Don’t take the metro into town….it’s too complicated.

IF YOU WISH TO STAY A FEW DAYS IN ATHENS  we have used and can recommend  the Hotel Athens Gate, a four star hotel with rooms around 150€ per night  (www.athensgate.gr)  or the three star Parthenon Hotel, with recently renovated rooms at around 80€ per night (www.airotel.com ).  Both are very well located next to the Acropolis, the new museum, Syntagma Square, and Plaka, the historical, and now pedestrian only area.

FERRIES TO LIMNOS mostly leave from Lavrio to the NE of Athens, not too far from the airport.  There are around five ferries per week. The journey takes twelve hours. The boats are old and not very comfortable.  Its an adventure! Limnos is served by two companies. NEL   www.nel.gr and ANEK www.anek.gr

LIMNOS VIA THESSALONIQUE.    You can choose to fly into Thessaloniki the second Greek city, nearer to Limnos than Athens. From there  daily flights with Sky Express  (www.skyepress.gr ) and twice weekly ferries with ANEK will get you to the island. Alternatively go by hire-car or bus the 150km to Kavala from where almost daily ferries cross to Limnos Kavala also has an airport which is served by some low cost and charter companies in summer.

We are here to help you in any way we can for you booking, travel plans, or with advice and information about Greece and Limnos. Don’t hesitate to ask…….we are only too happy to share our love of this wonderful country and this beautiful quiet peaceful island.
